RIO DE JANEIRO (ICIS)--Caustic soda availability in Brazil will tighten in 2013 on projected rising demand, an industry source said on Monday.
The start-up of new cellulose production plants in the country will contribute to the increase in caustic soda consumption, the source said on the sidelines of the Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) annual meeting.
Caustic soda demand in Brazil is greater than domestic production, and the country’s requirements are completed with imports, mostly from the US.
The Brazilian caustic soda market is finely balanced in Brazil, while it is gauged as tight elsewhere in the Americas, the source said.
US caustic soda producers have noted that while long-term contract buyers are being adequately supplied, spot buyers are having difficulty in locating product, according to the source.
The APLA conference ends on Tuesday.
