HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chlor-alkali production in October fell by one percentage point to 80% of capacity from September, a trade group said on Wednesday.
US chlor-alkali production in October was 912,708 tons (828,003 tonnes) of chlorine and 968,382 tons of caustic soda, according to The Chlorine Institute.
After hovering in percentages in the mid-80s from June to August, chlor-alkali production has ramped down in the past two months. Market sources said the downturn is largely due to a set of outages, both planned and unplanned, including shutdowns due to severe weather events on the U.S. Gulf and east coasts.
Major US chlor-alkali producers include Dow, Formosa Plastics USA, Georgia Gulf, Shintech, Occidental Chemical (OxyChem) and Westlake.
