The project, which will cost yuan (CNY) 7m ($1.1m), will also produce 30,800 tonne/year of co-product tetrahydrofuran (THF), the source added.
The project is expected to start construction this year and be completed in 2013, according to the source.
However, the source did not provide further details of the project.
BDO is a chemical intermediate used in the production of polymers, solvents and fine chemicals. THF is used to make polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) which goes into spandex fibers, urethane elastomers and copolyester ethers.
