SINGAPORE (ICIS)--All Iranian polyethylene (PE) producers with facilities based in the special economic and free trade zones of Asaluyeh and Bandar Imam have secured export licenses this week, industry sources said on Tuesday.

“We have obtained our export license and started dispatching cargoes from late last week. But these cargoes are still limited to those which have cleared customs prior to the announcement of the export ban in late October,” a source from Mehr Petrochemical (MHPC) said.

It remains unclear when other producers, whose cargoes have not yet been cleared by the Iranian customs, can resume shipments abroad.

“We were told that cargoes which have been cleared till end-October will be dispatched. For subsequent shipments, we have no idea,” he said.

Because of this uncertain shipment dates, most PE producers have yet to resume spot cargo discussions for December shipments.

Inventories are accumulating at the ports and representatives of the respective Iranian PE makers are currently in talks with the local authorities to “speed up” the customs clearing process.
