HOUSTON (ICIS)--Ashland has hired Luis Fernandez-Moreno as president of its water technologies business, the US-based chemicals firm said on Tuesday.

Fernandez-Moreno was until recently an executive at Arch Chemical, where he was responsible for water products and wood protection chemicals. Arch was acquired by Switzerland’s Lonza last year.

Before that, he was business group vice president of Dow Coating Materials, a business unit that was formed after Dow Chemical acquired Rohm and Haas in 2009.

At Ashland, Fernandez-Moreno will take over for John Panichella. Panichella, who is Ashland’s group operating officer and president of specialty ingredients, had taken on the additional responsibility for water technologies after the unit’s previous president, Paul Raymond, left Ashland in September.

Ashland did not disclose when Fernandez-Moreno will begin in his new role as president of water technologies.
