DUBAI (ICIS)--Saudi Basic Industries Co (SABIC) plans to start up its new 420,000 tonne/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia by the end of this year or early in 2013, a company source said on Thursday.
"Besides the general bottle grade, some special grades of PET will also be produced, in an effort to diversify and differentiate the company's product portfolio,"' the source said on the sidelines of the 7th GPCA Annual Forum, which runs from 27-29 November in Dubai.
The special grades are tape PET and tape fabric, which are co-inventions involving a partnership between SABIC and Austrian machinery manufacturer Starlinger.
SABIC currently operates a 330,000 tonne/year PET plant at Yanbu.
