LONDON (ICIS)--INEOS has won a contract from Russian petrochemical major OAO Nizhnekamskneftekhim to provide technology for two new polyethylene (PE) plants to be constructed in Tartarstan, Russia, the Switzerland-headquartered chemical group said on Wednesday.
The company is to provide Innovene G gas phase fluid bed technology for one 300,000 tonne/year plant, and Innovene S slurry phase high-density polyethylene (HDPE) technology for another 300,000 tonne/year plant, INEOS said.
The two plants are part of a larger petrochemical complex that Nizhnekamskneftekhim – a subsidiary of Russian holding company TAIF Group – is developing in Nizhnekamsk, Tartarstan. According to Nizhnekamskneftekhim, the complex is expected to be commissioned between 2015 and 2016.
“By signing the license agreement for INEOS technology, we will be able to produce various grades of polyethylene and be competitive not only in Russia and CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States], but also in other foreign countries,” said Nizhnekamskneftekhim director general Vladimir Busygin.
