HOUSTON (ICIS)--The US December mixed xylene (MX) contract increased by 35 cents/gal to settle at $4.30/gal during the week, trade sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The increase comes on the back of tight supplies and recent production issues, which have supported higher barge spot prices.
The increase was also in line with market expectations from last week.
The previous November MX contract price was settled at $3.95/gal FOB (free on board).
Current MX spot prices are at $4.55-4.75/gal FOB, up from $4.14-4.25/gal FOB a month earlier.
Major xylene producers in the US include BP, Chevron Phillips Chemical, ExxonMobil, Flint Hills Resources and LyondellBasell.
