Conchemco raises aromatics prices on tight supply

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US aromatics solvents distributor Conchemco said on Tuesday that it has come out with another price increase on truck and railcar toluene and xylene prices, effective 15 December, on the back of rising spot barge spot prices and tight supplies.

The company said it would increase toluene prices by 2 cents/lb ($44/tonne, €34/tonne) and xylene prices by 5 cents/lb.

It was the second price increase on toluene and xylene prices by the company in December.

Conchemco said earlier in the month that it would raise prices by 6 cents/lb on toluene and 3 cents/lb on xylene. Conchemco’s price increase came after Tauber said it would increase prices by the same amount effective 10 December.

No other suppliers or distributors have announced any additional price increases for toluene or xylene, but one distributor said it does plan on raising prices again but was not sure when.

The price increases come after CITGO's Lemont facility said a week ago that it would not be able to ship xylene, heptane and other products until 20 December because of production issues at its Lemont facility in Illinois.

In addition, independent refiner PBF Energy said last week that it was on 80% sales control for xylene.

Current toluene truck and rail prices in the Gulf are at 64-67 cents/lb.

Xylene prices are at 66-67 cents/lb.
