EU chemicals production up by 0.9% in October - Eurostat

LONDON (ICIS)--Chemicals production in the EU rose by 0.9% month on month in October, European statistics agency Eurostat said on Wednesday.

Eurozone chemicals production was up by 1.1%, it added, following a fall of 1.4% in September.

The Eurostat data suggest that chemicals production declined by 0.2% in the 27-member EU in October year on year, while production rose by 0.7% in the 17-member eurozone.

Europe’s industrial slowdown continued in October, with industrial production down by 1.0% in the EU and 1.4% in the eurozone on a seasonally adjusted basis, compared with September. The fall in industrial production in September, however, had been steeper.

Production of durable consumer goods fell by 1.5% in the EU and 3.8% in the eurozone in October, month on month. The production of capital goods was down 2.3% and 3.0% respectively.

Industrial production in October fell month on month in 14 EU member states and rose in eight.

On an annual basis, EU industrial production in October was down by 3.1% in the EU and 3.6% in the eurozone. Consumer durables production was down by 4.0% in the EU and 6.0% in the eurozone. The decline in capital goods output was 3.4% and 4.3%, respectively.

Industrial production fell in 13 member states on an annual basis in October and rose in 10, according to the available data.
