US melamine imports rose to 2,939 tonnes in October from 1,952 tonnes in October of last year.
Imports rose in October mainly because of increased product brought in from Trinidad & Tobago.
October imports decreased from 2,961 tonnes in September.
Trinidad & Tobago at 1,940 tonnes was the major source of US melamine imports, followed Germany at 490 tonnes, The Netherlands at 300 tonnes, China at 216 tonnes and Israel at 3 tonnes.
The US exported 2,779 tonnes of melamine in October, up from 2,659 tonnes in September.
The United Kingdom at 812 tonnes was the major destination for US melamine, followed by Canada at 373 tonnes, Russia at 360 tonnes and Italy at 300 tonnes.
Other destinations included Romania, Norway, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Ecuador.
The US exported 1,927 tonnes of melamine resins in October, up from 1,691 tonnes in September.
Major destinations included Mexico at 510 tonnes, China at 411 tonnes and Canada at 285 tonnes.
Other destinations included Brazil, India, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Germany.
