HOUSTON (ICIS)--US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) exports in October jumped 83% year on year on greater shipments to Belgium, Mexico and Turkey, according to data released on Wednesday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
US VAM exports totalled 47,220 tonnes in October, compared with 25,764 tonnes in the same month of 2011.
The largest export destination, Belgium, received 16,181 tonnes, a huge increase over only 1,415 tonnes the European country took in the same month of 2011.
Shipments to Mexico - the second largest destination - increased to 6,369 tonnes compared with 4,037 tonnes in the same month last year. Turkey received 3,431 tonnes, more than tripling 1,049 tonnes sent there in October 2011.
The three countries accounted for 91% of all VAM exports during the month.
Major US VAM sellers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
