HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethyl acetate (etac) imports and exports soared in October, with imports rising by 81% year on year and exports more than doubling, according to data released on Wednesday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Etac imports totalled 4,742 tonnes, compared with 2,622 tonnes in October 2011.
South Africa and Mexico accounted for all of the increase, receiving 3,833 tonnes in October, compared with 1,713 tonnes in the same month last year.
Etac exports, usually only about half as much as imports, totalled 2,584 tonnes, up by 111% compared with 1,223 tonnes in October last year. The export gain came on greater shipments to Turkey, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Etac is a major ingredient in inks and coatings, particularly in nail polish.
