SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yisheng Petrochemical has started trial runs at its new 3m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dalian this week, but its month-long attempt to start up another unit in Hainan failed, a source close to the company said on Friday.
The trial run is currently being conducted on one of the plant's three 1m tonne/year capacity compressors.
There is no definite timetable on the start-up of the new Dalian plant, the source said.
In Hainan, the company has not yet succeeded in starting up its 2m tonne/year PTA plant. The company has not achieved on-spec production at the unit since trial runs began in end-October, the source said.
Yisheng Petrochemical is running its existing 5.5m tonne/year PTA capacity at 60% this month because of poor margins.
At Ningbo in Zhejiang province, the company has two 650,000 tonne/year plants, and a 2m tonne/year unit. One of the smaller plants has been shut since 10 October because of unfavourable market conditions, the source said.
In Dalian, the company’s 2.2m tonne/year PTA plant has been running at 50% of capacity this month, the source said.
