LONDON (ICIS)--Bayer has appointed Michael Koenig as a member of its executive management board, effective 1 April 2013, the Germany-based chemicals and pharmaceuticals major said on Friday.

Koenig will be Bayer’s labour director, as well as a board member with responsibility for human resources and the Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions, the company said. He will also be responsible for Bayer’s Currenta subsidiary.

He will take over from Richard Pott, who is due to retire on 1 June 2013.

Bayer CEO Marijn Dekkers will assume Pott’s responsibility for strategy.

Koenig is currently a member of the executive committee of Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) and head of BMS’ polycarbonates business unit, which is based in Shanghai.
