19 December 2012 17:08 [Source: ICIS news]Correction: In the ICIS story headlined “SABIC seeks 5 cent/lb hike for US Jan PS on higher feedstock” dated 19 December 2012, please read the headline as “SABIC seeks 5 cent/lb hike for US Jan ABS…” instead of “SABIC seeks 5 cent/lb hike for US Jan PS…”
HOUSTON (ICIS)--SABIC Innovative Plastics will seek an additional 5 cents/lb ($110/tonne, €84/tonne) for its extruded pipe and sheet acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) in the US with an effective date of 14 January, a company source confirmed on Wednesday.
Currently, extrusion medium impact ABS in bulk has a domestic price of 129-152 cents/lb.
This is the third US ABS producer to issue a price increase initiative for January because of rising feedstock costs.
ABS buyers anticipated that there would be price increase announcements in the first quarter of 2013, but they questioned the timing as demand is seasonally down.
There are two other ABS producers in the Americas – Styrolution and Network Polymers.
Neither producer has indicated it will seek an increase.
