SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xinjiang Tianye Co Ltd is running its 30,000 tonne/year butanediol (BDO) plant at Xinjiang province at around 50% of capacity after the recent start-up, a company source said on Friday.

The company started trial runs at the BDO unit in November and achieved on-spec production on 12 December, according to some market sources.

Meanwhile, BDO demand is weak at the end of the year and the average operating rate of the local BDO plants is at 50-60%.

The 30,000 tonne/year BDO plant is the first phase of the company’s 200,000 tonnes/year BDO project.
