SINGAPORE (ICIS) – Sinopec said on Wednesday that it has entered into an agreement with US oil and gas giant ConocoPhillips for joint exploration, development and production of shale gas in the Qijiang block of China’s Sichuan province.

The agreement was signed on 21 December between Sinopec subsidiary – Sinopec Exploration Southern – and ConocoPhillips China (COPC), according to a Sinopec statement.

Under the agreement, the two partners will conduct two-dimension seismic discovery and drill two wells in the 3,913 sq km block for 24 months, the statement said, without mentioning the exact time frame.

The preliminary findings will provide information for overall evaluations of the block, it said.
