HOUSTON (ICIS)--Eastman Chemical was restarting its Longview 3A cracker in Texas, the company said on Thursday, its second attempt to resume production at the unit after an unplanned holiday outage.
The 141,000 tonne/year unit was taken off line on 27 December after a freeze-related problem resulted in the loss of instrument air.
Eastman has a second cracker in Longview with 141,000 tonnes/year and a larger unit with 358,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.
The extended outage at Eastman came amid a sharp increase in ethylene spot prices.
Ethylene for January delivery was heard traded as high as 65 cents/lb ($1,433/tonne, €1,103/tonne) on Wednesday, rising from deals done at 59.500-59.875 cents/lb last week.
($1 = €0.77)
