Europe chlorine output down in December, caustic soda stocks rise

LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in December fell by 5.5% from November, industry body Euro Chlor said on Monday.

Average daily production of chlorine for the region comprising the 27-member EU, Norway and Switzerland stood at 25,338 tonnes in December, compared with 26,809 tonnes in November.

Following record lows in October and November, co-product caustic soda stocks rose to 241,462 tonnes in December, up from 219,184 tonnes in November.

Euro Chlor's year-on-year figures show that average daily chlorine production in December 2012 was 2.8% higher than in the same month in 2011, while caustic soda stocks were up by 2.5%, having been at 235,576 tonnes in December 2011.

Chlorine capacity utilisation stood at 73.5% in December, compared with 77.7% in the previous month, and 72.3% in December 2011.
