SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Daicel Industries plans to shut its 420,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Himeiji, Hyogo prefecture, from May to June for a one month turnaround, according to a company official.

“We are running the plant at almost full capacity now because of the turnaround in May and June,” he said, adding that the exact dates of the turnaround have yet to be finalised.

The company conducts a turnaround at its plant every two years. The impending turnaround is unlikely to affect the market significantly, the official added.

Major acetic acid producers in Asia include BP, Celanese, China’s Jiangsu Sopo, Shanghai Wujing, Yankuang Cathay Coal Chemicals, Taiwan’s Chang Chun Petrochemical and Saudi Arabia’s International Acetyl Company.
