SINGAPORE (ICIS)--French polyacrylamide (PAM) producer SNF Floerger has started production at its new water treatment and paper chemicals facility in Taixing, China, a company source said on Friday.

The facility includes a quaternized monomer capacity of 25,000 tonne/year, and a monomer capacity of 15,000 tonne/year, the company said in a statement released earlier.

The unit was started up on 7 January, the source added.

This new unit will feed two lines of cationic polyacrylamide of 15,000 tonne/year each, with one line devoted to industrial and municipal water treatment sector, and the other line to serve the paper industry, it added.

The cationic monomer plant in China will use methyl-Acrylic (methyl-A) as its feedstock, a company source said.

“Initially, our demand will be small for methyl-A, just a few thousand tonnes but should ramp up as the market develops,” the source said without further elaboration regarding sourcing arrangements.
