HOUSTON (ICIS)--CHS, the largest farmer-owned cooperative in the US, confirmed on Wednesday it has acquired a fertilizer river and rail terminal on the Ohio River at Melbourne, Kentucky, from Mosaic.
The facility includes 27,000 short tons of on-site fertilizer storage, barge unloading, and rail and truck loading facilities and equipment.
Minnesota-based CHS said it will invest in modernizing and upgrading the facility over the next several months.
Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
“This facility will allow us to expand our services to customers in the eastern region through direct access to the river system,” said Cheryl Schmura, CHS vice president of Crop Nutrients.
“It will also provide additional storage and rail capabilities that will help us expand our customer base in the region,” she said.
