HOUSTON (ICIS) --US polycarbonates (PC) exports were 31,887 tonnes, up 4% from the 30,722 tonnes shipped in the same month in 2011, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data made available on Monday.
December’s figure was also a substantial 29% higher than the 24,753 tonnes shipped in November.
For the year, US producers shipped a total 415,040 tonnes of PC, up 7% from the 386,781 tonnes shipped in 2011.
China was by far the top destination of US PC in December, receiving 13,881 tonnes, up 9% from the same month in 2011.
It was followed by Mexico (5,626 tonnes), Brazil (2,322 tonnes), Canada (2,189 tonnes) and Korea (1,872 tonnes).
Meanwhile, the US imported 1445 tonnes of PC in December, a 67% increase over the same month a year before.
Major US manufacturers of PC include Styron, SABIC and Bayer MaterialScience.
