SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thai Oil has ramped up its Sri Racha-based aromatics plant to 100% since the week of 4 February, after obtaining ample toluene feedstock from its upstream refinery, a company source said on Friday.
“We managed to get more toluene internally, and it is not economical for us to get elsewhere,” the source said.
High sea freight rates have fuelled selling ideas, which dampened buying interest, the source added.
“For instance, sea freight [rate] now is at $30-35/tonne [€22.50-26.30/tonne] from Thailand to Singapore for 2,000-3,000 tonne lot, as compared with a year ago at barely $20/tonne,” he said.
The unit has a nameplate capacity of 259,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 527,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX).
