SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Hongye Chemical Industrial Group is expected to restart its 140,000 tonne/year adipic acid (ADA) plant in Shandong province on 26 February after completing its scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.
The ADA plant was shut on 7 February, the source added.
The company’s 60,000 tonne/year upstream cyclohexanone plant at the same site is also shut for turnaround and it is expected to resume operations around 24 February, according to the source.
The company had reduced the operating rate of its ADA plant to around 50% in the past few months because of high feedstock cost and weak demand.
Domestic ADA prices in China were assessed at yuan (CNY) 11,700-12,100/tonne ($1,872-1,936/tonne) on 19 February, up by CNY400-500/tonne from the previous assessment during the week ended 5 February, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
ADA is mostly used to produce nylon 6,6 (polyamide 6,6) and polyurethanes (PU) that are used in shoe soles and polyester resins.
