TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin fell by 12% year on year to 18,012 tonnes in January from the same time a year earlier, official industry figures showed on Thursday.
Exports of ABS resin stood at 9,872 tonnes, unchanged from the year earlier, according to Nihon ABS jushi kogyokai (Japan ABS resin industry association).
Among the domestic shipments’ total, 6,918 tonnes were used for the production of automobiles, a 16% decrease year on year, while shipments for electric appliances fell by 14% to 1,936 tonnes, the data showed.
A total of 1,808 tonnes of ABS resin were used for construction purposes, a 2% decrease from the same time a year before, according to the association.
