China’s Ningbo Jiangning Chemical to start up MA unit in late Mar

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Ningbo Jiangning Chemical plans to start up its n-butane-based 80,000 tonne/year maleic anhydride (MA) unit in Zhejiang province in late March, company sources said on Tuesday.

The company is scheduled to ramp up the operating rate of the new MA unit to high levels in June, the sources added.

China’s total capacity of n-butane-based MA units will reach 200,000 tonnes/year from 120,000 tonnes/year currently after the start-up, according to the sources.

The other n-butane-based MA producers and their capacities are are Xinjiang Kailianjie Petrochemical (20,000 tonnes/year); CNPC Tuha Chemical (20,000 tonnes/year); Kelamayi Jinyuan Chemical (40,000 tonnes/year); and Zhejiang Huachen Energy (40,000 tonnes/year).

Most MA units in China use benzene as raw material.

Ningbo Jiangning Chemical is a subsidiary of Zhejiang Jiangshan Chemical.
