SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group plans to start up its 600,000 tonne/year propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in Tianjin in the fourth quarter of this year, a company source said on Wednesday.
The unit in Tianjin will be China’s first PDH facility.
The company is expected to start purchasing spot propane in June or in the third quarter when it completes the construction of a 240,000 cubic metre (cbm) propane storage tank, the source said.
However, according to market sources, Bohai Chemical has already signed a contract for a term supply of propane in 2014. This could not be confirmed immediately.
The same sources added that Bohai Chemical may still need to purchase spot propane cargoes for 2014 on top of its term supply.
The company has further plans to build two additional PDH units at the same site.
