Japan's production of oriented PP film falls 7% in February

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of oriented polypropylene (PP) film fell by 7% year on year to 18,275 tonnes in February, official data from the Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association showed on Thursday.

Domestic shipments of oriented PP film decreased by 0.7% to 16,983 tonnes in February from the previous year, while exports were down by 37% to 324 tonnes, according to the association.

Meanwhile, the country’s cast PP film rose by 2.9% year on year to 12,433 tonnes in February, while domestic shipments totalled 11,507 tonnes, up by 0.5%, the data showed.

Exports of cast PP film increased by 10% to 424 tonnes from the year earlier, according to the association.

Oriented PP film and cast PP film are mainly used for food packaging.
