LONDON (ICIS)--Netherlands-based OCI Melamine has begun its planned turnaround at its 150,000 tonne/year melamine plant in Geleen, a source from the company said on Wednesday.

“The stop at the plant has started,” the source said.

The company did not disclose the precise start date of the turnaround, but the outage is expected to continue for three weeks.

OCI Melamine has been building up its stock levels and intends to fulfil its contractual requirements during the turnaround.

“We're exactly on track. We have stocks to bridge the maintenance stop but not much flexibility to cope with additional demand.”

Buyers expect to see a balanced melamine market in the second quarter, and are unconcerned about availability, despite a series of outages under way.
