SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corp (TPCC) is running its phenol/acetone plant at Kaohsiung at 80% capacity because of weak demand, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The plant, which has a phenol nameplate capacity of 360,000 tonnes/year and an acetone nameplate capacity of 220,000 tonnes/year, was running at 100% capacity in the first half of March, the source said.

However, the plant’s operating rate was reduced to 80% capacity in the second half of March in response to weak market conditions, the source said.

The plant’s operating rate will be capped at 80% capacity in April because of unfavourable margins, the source added.
