Acrylonitrile February exports fell by 53% from year ago – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Acrylonitrile (ACN) exports fell by almost 53% in February from the year-ago period, according to data released on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

February 2013 exports were 21,661 tonnes, down from 45,768 tonnes a year ago. Month to month, February imports were also down about 42% from 37,614 tonnes in January 2013.

The sharpest drop was in exports to China, which declined by 91%, while exports to Korea were down 63%, exports to Taiwan were down 49% and exports to Turkey were down 32%.

US producers of ACN include Ascend Performance Materials; Cornerstone Chemical and INEOS Nitriles.

Combined, those producers have an annual output capacity of 1.46m tonnes.
