US ABS February exports fell by 15% from year ago – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) fell by almost 15% in February from a year ago, according to a report issued Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Exports for the month were 6,485 tonnes, compared with 7,592 tonnes in February 2012. Compared with January 2013, February exports fell nearly 2% from 6,614 tonnes.

Looking at the year-over-year comparisons, the biggest drop came in shipments to Brazil, which fell by 44%; Belgium, which dropped by 42%; and Mexico, which saw exports drop by 15%.

US producers of ABS include INEOS ABS, Network Polymers, SABIC Innovative Plastics and Styron. Collectively, they have an annual capacity of 842,500 tonnes.
