HOUSTON (ICIS)--US caustic soda exports in February rose 31% over the same month in 2012, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Monday.
The US shipped 391,630 tonnes of caustic soda in February, compared with 299,037 tonnes in February 2012, the ITC said. February’s figure was also 20% over the 326,994 tonnes shipped in January.
Brazil was the top destination for US caustic soda in February, at 124,944 tonnes, down 10% from the same month in 2012.
It was folowed by Chile (47,678 tonnes), Australia (39,995 tonnes) and Canada (38,226 tonnes).
Meanwhile, caustic soda imports to the US in February were 64,660 tonnes, down 44% from the same month in 2012.
Canada was the top supplier of caustic soda to the US, at 22,009 tonnes, up 27% from February 2012.
It was followed by the Netherlands (17,839 tonnes), Taiwan (6,904 tonnes) and Germany (6,652 tonnes).
Major producers of US caustic soda include Dow, Formosa, Axiall, Olin, OxyChem and Shintech.
