SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Indonesia’s Sorini Agro Asia has increased its offers for spot sorbitol by $20-30/tonne, on the back of firmer feedstock tapioca starch prices, a company source said on Wednesday.
“We have seen tapioca starch prices moving up since the start of the year and need to pass on some increase to the customers,” said the source, referring particularly to tapioca starch prices from Thailand.
Discussions for April shipments are largely ongoing at $650-680/tonne FOB (€501-517/tonne) FOB (free on board) Indonesia, the source added.
Export prices of feedstock tapioca starch listed by the Thai Tapioca Starch Association (TTSA) were at $485/tonne FOB Bangkok for the week ended 9 April. The listed export price includes the cost of 50kg polypropylene (PP)/polyethylene (PE) packaging bags.
Sorbitol is an artificial sweetener with applications in food products and pharmaceuticals.
