SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s SP Chemicals plans to shut its 150,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit at Taixing in Jiangsu on 13 April for seven days of maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

SP Chemicals has a total capacity of 750,000 dmt/year of caustic soda, including other four units at the same site with the capacities of 50,000 dmt/year, 100,000 dmt/year, 150,000 dmt/year, 300,000 dmt/year.

The company plans to cut the operating rates of other four units to 80% of capacity at the same time, the source added.

The reduction is expected to reduce output of caustic soda in Jiangsu by more than 5,000dmt during the shutdown period, but prices in the market are expected to be stable because of weak demand, a local market player said.
