Japan's polystyrene production falls 6% in March

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of polystyrene (PS) fell by 6% to 61,514 tonnes in March from the same time a year earlier, industry data showed on Tuesday.

The country’s domestic demand for PS declined by 23% year on year to 50,740 tonnes, while exports stood at 1,387 tonnes, a 22% decline, based on the official data from the Japan Styrene Industry Association (JSIA).

Meanwhile, Japan’s output of styrene monomer (SM) increased by 43% to 227,748 tonnes in March from the year before, according to JSIA.

Domestic demand stood at 114,766 tonnes, up by 6% year on year, while exports rose by 55% to 115,312 tonnes, based on the data.
