SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Chinese state-owned oil and gas company PetroChina started construction on the second phase of its project at Halfaya oilfield in southern Iraq on 14 April, a company source said on Thursday.
The company started commercial production at the project’s first phase in June 2012, which was 15 months ahead of its schedule, the source added.
The Halfaya project’s first phase is currently producing 100,000 bbl/day of oil, while the second phase is targeted to produce 200,000 bbl/day of oil once it comes on stream, PetroChina said in a statement.
The second phase of the project is expected to be completed and started up in the second quarter of 2014, PetroChina added.
