SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Two barges carrying natural gas were on fire at Alabama’s Mobile River in the US on Wednesday night following an explosion that injured three people, CNN reported citing Mobile authorities.

Three people who suffered burns from the incident were rushed to the nearest local hospital, but further details were not available, CNN said.

The shipping channel was closed to traffic because of the blaze, with a 1-mile safety zone set up around the barges, CNN said quoting US Coast Guard commodore Eric King.

The explosion occurred near the docking area of Carnival Corp’s Triumph cruise ship, which had an engine fire in February at the Gulf of Mexico.
