LONDON (ICIS)--Global industrial gases producer Air Products has launched a plant for the production of carbon dioxide (CO2) as a liquefied gas at the main production site of Grupa Azoty, Poland's largest chemical group.
The installation, costing €10m ($13.2m) and located in Tarnow-Moscice, southern Poland, has the capacity to purify and liquefy approximately 220 tonnes/day of CO2, Grupa Azoty, also the second largest European fertilizer producer, said on Wednesday.
The crude CO2 will be drawn from Grupa Azoty's production of ammonia synthesis gas, Grupa Azoty (previously the Zaklady Azoty Tarnow (ZAT) group), said.
The new plant would enable Air Products, headquartered in Pennsylvania, to quickly and effectively respond to the needs of customers in Poland, and potentially clients outside of the country, for liquefied CO2, it added.
Liquefied CO2 is used in the carbonation of beverages, the modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) of food and in the cultivation of plants in greenhouses.
