China's vehicle sales decrease to 1.84m units in April

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s vehicle sales fell to 1.84m units in April after hitting a historical high of 2.03m units in March, official industry data showed on Thursday.

April’s vehicle production also contracted to 1.9m units, 8.9% less than in March, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

However, on a year-on-year basis, April’s sales and production increased by 13% and 15%, respectively.

Passenger car sales in April rose by 13% year on year to 1.4m units, with production up by 15% to 1.5m units, the CAAM said.

The sales and production of passenger cars in April were 9.1% and 9.6% lower, respectively, than in March.

In January-April, China sold 7.27m units and produced 7.3m units of vehicles, an increase of 13% and 13% year on year, respectively, said CAAM.
