Europe chlorine utilisation, caustic soda stocks fall in April

LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in April 2013 fell by 10.2% month on month, with maintenance turnarounds having an effect, industry body Euro Chlor said on Friday.

Average daily chlorine production for the region – comprising the EU, Norway and Switzerland – stood at 23,434 tonnes/day, compared with 26,110 tonnes/day in March 2013.

Production during the month was 15.9% lower year on year, from 27,858 tonnes/day on average in April 2012.

April caustic soda stocks stood at 240,139 tonnes, 7.7% below the previous month’s figure of 260,204 tonnes, Euro Chlor said.

Caustic soda stocks were 45,706 tonnes below the level of 285,845 tonnes in April 2012.

Chlorine capacity utilisation stood at 67.8% in April, compared with 75.5% the previous month, and 80.8% in April 2012.
