HOUSTON (ICIS)--Chevron Phillips Chemical (CP Chem) reported a loss of power and steam at its Sweeny site in Texas on 11 May, according to a filing made available on Monday with the National Response Center (NRC).

The filing said the loss of power and steam led to the release of ethylene and propylene at the facility.

The Sweeny site has three crackers with a combined ethylene capacity of 1.878m tonnes/year.

In a separate filing on 11 May with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), CP Chem reported a power interruption at its Sweeny complex.

The interruption caused several process units to shut down or experience operational difficulties and was triggered by Texas New Mexico power supply failure.

Market sources said that at least one Sweeny cracker remained off-line on Monday. A spokesperson for CP Chem declined to comment, citing company policy.
