Germany Q1 chem production down 0.7% year on year, prices up 1.1%

LONDON (ICIS)--Germany’s chemical production fell 0.7% year on year in the first quarter of 2013 while prices rose 1.1%, the country’s chemical producers’ trade group VCI said in an update on Wednesday.
Compared with the 2012 fourth quarter, chemical industry production was down 0.5% and prices were down 0.3%.
First-quarter industry sales were €45.8bn ($59.5bn), up 0.5% year on year.
Plant capacity utilisation in the industry averaged 84% during the three months ended 31 March, up from 82% in the 2012 fourth quarter.
VCI maintained its previous forecast of a 1.5% increase in chemical production for 2013. This compares with an upward-revised 2.5% year-on-year decline in full-year 2012 chemical production.
