NACD: Focusing on real solutions

The chemical distribution industry has a strong track record of delivering on its commitment to the safe handling, storage and delivery of its products. Its suppliers rely on the high quality created through implementation of NACD's Responsible Distributione_SRTm program and customers expect it. NACD members' safety numbers are consistently higher than their non-member peers and continue to be twice as good as all manufacturing combined. These results help NACD members drive real solutions to enable their businesses to grow and thrive.

Recently, NACD's board of directors approved the addition of a new Security Code to the NACD Responsible Distribution Code of Management Practice. This new code is a testament to our members' commitment in the advancement of our security practices and for the products for which they are responsible.

We are beginning to see movement on several fronts in the new Congress, which has been in session since early January, including hearings on CFATS, proposals on TSCA Reform, and more activity on the regulatory front.

The Government Advocacy and the new Regulatory Affairs Committees are well positioned to proactively support the industry on both Capitol Hill and with the various regulatory agencies. The response to the recent Regulatory Compliance survey was off the charts. It clearly shows our members are concerned about burgeoning regulatory pressures and the need for NACD to provide more resources to support our membership.

Finally, the board and I continue to hear that succession and finding talent continues to be a challenging area. Our industry creates tens of thousands of good paying, dependable jobs every year. In an effort to help support this need, NACD has started an Emerging Leaders program, offering high-potential leaders in our member companies a unique opportunity to improve their business insight and leadership skills. In its first year, this program will enable emerging leaders to identify and tackle key aspects of leading a team and a company. For more information, please contact us at (703) 527 6223 x 3043.
