SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) resin imports from China are reaching the Americas because of competitive pricing, US-based trader Pacific TPU said on Monday on the sidelines of the Feiplastic 2013 exhibition.
China-based Austin Novel Material is distributing its resin through Pacific TPU of Covina, California, to the US, Chile, Mexico and Brazil, with the latter showing notable growth in the TPU sector, Pacific TPU’s general manager Higor Nascimento said.
TPU from China is lower priced than product from other regions, while still offering satisfactory properties, according to Nascimento.
Although polyurethanes (PU) can be more expensive than alternative materials, end-use products made with PUs last longer, and the improvement in the properties of the finished good can compensate for the added cost, Nascimento said.
TPUs are used in flexible pipes, shoes soles and car parts.
Feiplastic 2013 continues through Friday.
