SAO PAOLO (ICIS)--Brazil’s polystyrene (PS) producer Innova will increase PS production by 15,000 tonne/year at its Triunfo PS plant, and the interconnection of the new unit will take place in October, Innova sources said on Wednesday at the sidelines of the Feiplastic Exhibition in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Triunfo plant has a nominal capacity of 146,000 tonnes/year with production of general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS).
The company expects that the new unit will be producing normally by November.
Innova has restarted styrene monomer (SM) production on 20 May after a maintenance turnaround.
Immediately after, a turnaround at the ethyl benzene plant has started, and it is scheduled to end on 9 June.
Styrene supply is very tight in Brazil, and it is one of the reasons why PS prices have risen in recent months.
PS demand historically subsides during the winter months, but tight supply may prevent price erosion.
Feiplastic 2013 continues through Friday.
