LONDON (ICIS)--First quarter 2013 European ethylene, propylene and butadiene (BD) production increased by 3% on average from the  previous quarter, but volumes were the lowest for a first quarter since 2009, according to statistics seen by ICIS on Wednesday that were released by the Association of Petrochemical Producers in Europe (APPE).

The figures show that Q1 ethylene production rose about 4% from Q4 2012 to 4.69m tonnes, but this is down about 3.5% compared with the same period last year.

Propylene production amounted to 3.58m tonnes, which was up by nearly 4% from the previous quarter but down by 2.6% compared with Q1 2012.

BD production increased by 11,000 tonnes in Q1 2013, up by 2.2% from Q4 2012, but was 21,000 tonnes lower than in Q1 2012.

The figures denote production in western Europe – the EU 15 (the EU before the accession of 10 countries in 2004) plus Norway.
