SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s PETRONAS plans to shut its 300,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant at Kuantan in Pahang state in June for a three-week maintenance, market players said on Friday.

The company could not be reached for comment.

“The shutdown will tighten the spot [MTBE] availability in June,” a regional trader said.

Discussions for June cargoes in Asia are nearly over, and the shutdown of PETRONAS’ MTBE plant may not have much impact on the market, another regional trader said.
